Indications
- Treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media
- Treatment of otitis externa
- Prophylactic treatment of otitis externa following trauma
- Post-operative local use in surgery to infected mastoid cavities
- Treatment of redness, itching, and swelling of the skin
Pharmacology
- Gentamicin binds to 30s and 50s ribosomal subunits of bacteria disrupting protein synthesis
- Hydrocortisone has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects
- Hydrocortisone suppresses migration of leukocytes and reverses capillary permeability
- Hydrocortisone is used for replacement therapy in adrenocortical insufficiency
Dosage
- Recommended dosage for middle ear infection
- Recommended dosage for ear canal infection
- Recommended frequency of application for redness, itching, and swelling of the skin
Administration
- Product needs to be shaken well before use
Interaction
- Additive effect with neurotoxic and nephrotoxic drugs for Gentamicin
- Potentiation of anticoagulants effect for Gentamicin
- Increased risk of hypocalcaemia with bisphosphonates for Gentamicin
- Enhanced hyperglycaemia and hypokalaemia with thiazides for Hydrocortisone
- Increased incidence of peptic ulcer with concurrent NSAIDs for Hydrocortisone

- Hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside
