Indications

Description
- General properties of iron salts
- Facilitates O2 transport via haemoglobin
- Replaces iron found in haemoglobin, myoglobin and other enzymes
Dosage & Administration
- Initial therapeutic dose: 3-4½ teaspoonful daily in divided doses or as prescribed by physician
- Maintenance dose: 1½ teaspoonful daily for adults
- Children's dosage: varies based on age, as directed by physician
- Mix with water or fruit juice to avoid temporary staining of teeth
Interaction
- Diminished absorption when taken concomitantly with Tetracycline
- Should be taken 3 hours before or 2 hours after Tetracycline
- Decreased absorption in presence of antacids or when taken with tea
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in haemachromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Not for patients receiving repeated blood transfusion or with anaemia not produced by iron deficiency
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting
- May cause constipation with continuous administration
- Liquid medication may cause temporary staining of teeth

- Administer with caution to patients with iron storage or absorption disease, haemoglobinopathies, or existing gastrointestinal disease
