Description

Irolic Tablet is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of Iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy, prevention of megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy, and is a therapeutic class of Iron & Vitamin Combined preparations.

Indications

  • Prophylaxis and treatment of Iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy
  • Prevention of megaloblastic anaemia of pregnancy

Pharmacology

Essential constituent of the body for haemoglobin formation, oxidative processes, and prevention of Iron deficiency anaemia and megaloblastic anaemia of pregnancy.

DosageAdministration

Adults: One tablet daily, or twice daily when necessary. Recommended to start at first antenatal consolation and continue for 3 months after delivery.

Interaction

  • Diminished absorption with tetracycline, antacids, tea
  • Reduces effects of penicillamine
  • Inhibits megaloblastic haemopoiesis with co-trimoxazole
  • Reduces serum anticonvulsant levels by administration of folate

Contraindications

  • Pernicious anaemia
  • Anaemia other than those due to iron deficiency
  • Inhibition by Magnesium trisillicate and Antacid containing carbonate

PrecautionsWarnings

  • Avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy
  • Investigate further if anaemia develops despite prophylaxis

OverdoseEffects

Patients who have taken an overdose should have gastric lavage performed, symptomatic treatment, and chelating agent administration
