Dosage & Administration
- Adults: One tablet daily
- In pregnancy, recommended to start at first antenatal consultation and continue for 3 months after delivery

Interactions
- Absorption of iron salts and tetracycline is diminished when taken concomitantly by mouth
- Iron salts reduce the effects of penicillamine
- Co-trimoxazole may inhibit megaloblastic haemopoiesis
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with pernicious anaemia and anaemia other than those due to iron deficiency
- Absorption is inhibited by Magnesium trisillicate and Antacid containing carbonate

Precautions & Warnings
- Undesirable to administer during the first trimester of pregnancy

- Gastric lavage should be performed if possible within four hours of overdosage
- Chelating agent such as desferrioxamine to eliminate excess free iron
