Indications
- Treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C deficiency
- Meeting extra need of vitamins and minerals especially in pregnancy or when planning for pregnancy
Composition
- Ferrous Sulphate 150 mg
- Folic acid 0.5 mg
- Thiamine Mononitrate (vitamin B1 ) 2 mg
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2 ) 2 mg
- Nicotinamide (vitamin B3 ) 10 mg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6 ) 1 mg
- Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 50 mg
Pharmacology
- Essential roles of Iron in the body including red blood cell production
- Folic acid's role in metabolic systems and erythropoiesis
- Necessity of Vitamin C for collagen formation and tissue repair
- Importance of Vitamin B complex in maintaining cell health and energy levels
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended adult dose is one capsule daily
- In more severe deficiency states, 2 capsules a day may be required or as directed by the physician
Interaction
- Care should be taken when given to patients with Iron storage or absorption disease
- Iron form chelates with antacids and Tetracycline, impairing absorption if taken concurrently
Contraindications
- Contradictions in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Iron therapy is contraindicated in haemochromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Caution advised for patients taking Levodopa due to reduction of its effect by Pyridoxine
Side Effects
- Generally well tolerated
- A few allergic reactions may be seen
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Care should be taken in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline, impairing absorption
Overdose Effects
- Accidental overdose of iron containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6
- Higher doses of Nicotinamide may cause vomiting, diarrhea
- Sensory neuropathy observed in individuals consuming more than 200 mg Pyridoxine for long periods
