Indications
- Treatment of Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B complex, and Vitamin C deficiency
- Prophylaxis of vitamins and minerals deficiency in pregnancy
- Prophylaxis of vitamins and minerals deficiency when planning for pregnancy
Composition
- Ferrous Sulphate: 150 mg
- Folic acid: 0.5 mg
- Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1): 2 mg
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 2 mg
- Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3): 10 mg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6): 1 mg
- Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C): 50 mg
Mode of Action
- Iron: Role in red blood cell production
- Folic acid: Essential for coenzyme production
- Vitamin C: Necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair
- Vitamin B complex: Critical for maintaining cell health and energy levels
Dosage & Administration
One capsule daily, or 2 capsules in severe deficiency states as directed by physician
Interaction
Care needed when given with antacids and Tetracycline due to impaired absorption
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients
- Haemochromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Patients receiving repeated blood transfusion
- Patients with anaemia not due to iron deficiency
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated, potential for allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Care needed in patients at risk of iron overload, and with interactions with tetracycline
Overdose Effects
- Iron: Leads to fatal poisoning in children under 6, symptoms may include bloody diarrhea, vomiting, acidosis, darkened stools, abdominal pain
- Riboflavin: Reported to be completely safe
- Nicotinamide: Higher doses may cause vomiting, diarrhea
- Pyridoxine: Long-term high doses may cause sensory neuropathy
- Folic acid: No reported cases of overdosage
- Ascorbic acid: Unlikely to cause significant effects even in massive doses
