Indications
- Treatment of Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C deficiency
- Prophylaxis of Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C deficiency
- Meeting extra need of vitamins and minerals, especially in pregnancy or when planning for pregnancy
Composition
- Ferrous Sulphate 150 mg
- Folic acid 0.5 mg
- Thiamine Mononitrate (vitamin B1 ) 2 mg
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2 ) 2 mg
- Nicotinamide (vitamin B3 ) 10 mg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6 ) 1 mg
- Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 50 mg
Pharmacology
- Iron is essential for making red blood cells and carrying oxygen
- Folic acid is essential for metabolic systems and nucleoprotein synthesis
- Vitamin C is necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair
- Vitamin B complex is essential for cell health and maintaining energy levels
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended adult dose is one capsule daily
- In more severe deficiency states, 2 capsules a day may be required or as directed by the physician
Interaction
- Care should be taken when given to patients with Iron storage or Iron absorption disease
- Iron form chelates with antacids and Tetracycline and absorption of all these may be impaired if taken concurrently
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Iron therapy is contraindicated in haemachromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Not recommended for patients with repeated blood transfusion or anaemia not due to iron deficiency
- Cautiously given to patients taking Levodopa as Pyridoxine reduces its effect
Side Effects
- Generally well tolerated with a few allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Care should be taken in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired
Overdose Effects
- Accidental overdose of iron containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children
- Avoid higher doses if you have liver disease or hemochromatosis
- Higher doses of Nicotinamide may cause vomiting and diarrhea
- Sensory neuropathy observed in individuals consuming more than 200 mg Pyridoxine for long periods
