Indications
- Treatment of Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C deficiency
- Prophylaxis in pregnancy or when planning for pregnancy
Composition
- Ferrous Sulphate 150 mg
- Folic acid 0.5 mg
- Thiamine Mononitrate (vitamin B1 ) 2 mg
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2 ) 2 mg
- Nicotinamide (vitamin B3 ) 10 mg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6 ) 1 mg
- Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 50 mg
Pharmacology
- Iron is essential for making red blood cells
- Folic acid is essential for coenzyme production and erythropoiesis
- Vitamin C is necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair
- Vitamin B complex plays a role in maintaining cell health and energy levels
Dosage & Administration
Recommended adult dose is one capsule daily; 2 capsules a day may be required in severe deficiency states
Interaction
Interacts with Iron storage or absorption disease, antacids, and Tetracycline
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients
- Haemachromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Patients receiving repeated blood transfusion
- Patients with anaemia not due to iron deficiency
- Caution with patients taking Levodopa
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated; may cause allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Care should be taken in patients who may develop iron overload; iron chelates with tetracycline
Overdose Effects
- Accidental overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6
- Excess iron can cause various symptoms
- Riboflavin is reported to be completely safe
- Higher doses of Nicotinamide may cause vomiting and diarrhea
- Sensory neuropathy observed with high Pyridoxine consumption
- Folic acid overdosage has not been reported
- Acute ingestion of Ascorbic acid unlikely to cause significant effects
