Composition
- Each extended release capsule contains Ferrous Sulphate 150 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Folic acid 0.5 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Thiamine Mononitrate (vitamin B1) 2 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Riboflavin (vitamin B2) 2 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Nicotinamide (vitamin B3) 10 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6) 1 mg
- Each extended release capsule contains Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) 50 mg
Pharmacology
- Iron is essential for red blood cell production
- Folic acid is essential for coenzyme production
- Vitamin C is necessary for collagen formation
- Vitamin B complex is essential for cell health and energy
- Vitamin B deficiencies can lead to health problems
Dosage & administration
- Recommended adult dose: one capsule daily
- In severe deficiency states, 2 capsules a day may be required
- Dosage to be directed by a physician
Interaction
- Care required with Iron storage or absorption disease
- Iron form chelates with antacids and Tetracycline
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Iron therapy is contraindicated in haemachromatosis and haemosiderosis
- Cautious in patients taking Levodopa as Pyridoxine reduces its effect
Side effects
- Generally well tolerated
- Few allergic reactions may be seen
Pregnancy & lactation
- Recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & warnings
- Care needed in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired
Overdose effects
- Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children
- Excess can cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting, acidosis, darkened stools, abdominal pain
- Higher doses of Nicotinamide may cause vomiting, diarrhea
- Sensory neuropathy observed in individuals consuming more than 200 mg Pyridoxine for very long periods
- Acute ingestion of Ascorbic acid, even of massive doses, is unlikely to cause significant effects
