Indications

  • Treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency
  • Especially during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Each timed-release capsule contains Ferrous Sulphate BP 150 mg (equivalent to 47 mg Iron), Folic Acid BP 500 mcg, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily, 2 capsules daily in severe cases
  • Children over 1 year: 1 capsule daily, may be opened and mixed with soft cool food

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the product
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Dark stools
  • Nausea
  • Gastrointestinal irritation
  • Anorexia
  • Vomiting
  • Discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Zinc-induced gastrointestinal upset
  • Rare reports of allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use during the first trimester should be avoided if possible
  • Definite evidence of Iron deficiency required for Iron administration during the first trimester
  • Justified use of Zinc and Folic acid during the remainder of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care in patients at risk of Iron overloads
  • Failure to respond to treatment may indicate other causes of anaemia
  • Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids
  • Reduced absorption of Zinc in the presence of Iron
  • Reduced absorption of Iron by penicillamine and antacids
  • Separation of administration of each product by several hours may reduce potential interactions
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure

Overdose Effects

  • Iron overdosage is dangerous, particularly in children
  • Requires immediate attention
  • Gastric lavage or induced vomiting in early stages
  • Oral desferrioxamine for Iron overdose
  • Immediate attention for Zinc overdose
  • Symptomatic and supportive measures as required
  • Timed-release capsule presentation may delay excessive absorption of Iron and Zinc
