Indications

  • Treatment of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiency
  • Prophylaxis during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Ferrous Sulphate BP: 150 mg (equivalent to 47 mg Iron)
  • Folic Acid BP: 500 mcg
  • Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP: 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult or Elderly:
    • 1 capsule daily
    • 2 capsules daily in severe cases
  • Children: 1 capsule daily for those aged over 1 year

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components, iron overload

Side Effects

  • Dark stools
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid during first trimester if possible, use with evidence of deficiency

Precautions & Warnings

  • Patients at risk of Iron overload:
    • Haemochromatosis
    • Haemolytic anaemia
    • Red cell aplasia
  • Potential drug interactions:
    • Iron & Zinc chelate with tetracycline
    • Absorption reduced in presence of Iron

Overdose Effects

  • Iron overdosage:
    • Dangerous, especially in children
    • Requires immediate attention
    • Symptomatic and supportive measures recommended
  • Zinc Sulphate overdosage:
    • Corrosive
    • Avoid gastric lavage or emesis
    • Symptomatic and supportive measures recommended
