Indications

  • Treatment of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency
  • Prophylaxis during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Timed-release capsule
  • Contains Ferrous Sulphate, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate

Dosage & Administration

  • 1 capsule daily for adults and elderly
  • 2 capsules daily in severe cases for adults and elderly
  • 1 capsule daily for children over 1 year
  • Capsule may be opened and pellets mixed with food for children

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to product components
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Dark stools during iron therapy
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, anorexia, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Possible gastrointestinal upset from Zinc
  • Rare reports of allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoiding drug use in first trimester
  • Justified use of Iron, Zinc, and Folic Acid during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients at risk of Iron overloads
  • Investigation for non-responsive anaemia
  • Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids, and other drugs
  • Reduced Zinc absorption in presence of Iron
  • Reduced Iron absorption with penicillamine and antacids
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in renal failure patients

Overdose Effects

  • Danger of Iron overdosage, especially in children
  • Immediate attention required for Iron overdosage
  • Gastric lavage or vomiting induction if appropriate
  • Use of oral desferrioxamine for Iron overdosage
  • Corrosive effects of Zinc in overdose
  • Symptomatic and supportive measures for overdose
  • Timed-release capsule may delay excessive absorption of Iron and Zinc in overdose
