Indications

  • Treatment of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiency
  • Prophylaxis during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Ferrous Sulphate BP 150 mg (equivalent to 47 mg Iron)
  • Folic Acid BP 500 mcg
  • Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily, may increase to 2 capsules daily in severe cases
  • Children over 1 year: 1 capsule daily, may be mixed with soft cool food

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to components of the product
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Dark stools during iron therapy
  • Nausea
  • Gastrointestinal irritation
  • Anorexia
  • Vomiting
  • Discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Zinc-induced gastrointestinal upset
  • Rare allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoid use in first trimester of pregnancy if possible
  • Supplementary Zinc and Folic Acid justified during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care in patients susceptible to Iron overloads
  • Failure to respond to treatment may indicate other causes of anaemia
  • Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids
  • Reduced Zinc absorption in presence of Iron
  • Reduced Iron absorption in presence of antacids
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in renal failure

Overdose Effects

  • Danger of Iron overdosage, particularly in children
  • Immediate gastric lavage or induced vomiting
  • Oral desferrioxamine for Iron overdose
  • Gross Zinc over dosage is corrosive
  • Symptomatic and supportive measures required
