Indication & Usage

  • Treatment of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency
  • Prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Each capsule contains: Ferrous Sulphate BP 150 mg (equivalent to 47 mg Iron), Folic Acid BP 500 mcg, Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc.)

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily, may increase to 2 capsules daily in severe cases
  • Children aged over 1 year: 1 capsule daily, may mix pellets with soft cool food

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to components of the product
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Dark stools
  • Nausea
  • Gastrointestinal irritation
  • Anorexia

  • Discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Allergic reactions (rare)

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Caution during first trimester
  • Definite evidence of Iron deficiency required for Iron administration in first trimester
  • Supplementary Zinc and Folic Acid justified during remainder of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care with patients prone to Iron overload
  • Failure to respond to treatment may indicate other causes of anaemia
  • Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids
  • Reduced absorption of Zinc in presence of Iron
  • Reduced absorption of Iron by penicillamine and antacids
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure

Overdose Effects

  • Iron overdosage dangerous, especially in children
  • Immediate attention required for Iron overdosage
  • Gastric lavage or induced vomiting in early stages of iron overdosage
  • Avoid gastric lavage or emesis if signs of zinc corrosive effects present
  • Oral desferrioxamine administration for iron overdosage
  • Symptomatic and supportive measures for Zinc overdose
  • Timed-release capsules delay excessive absorption of Iron and Zinc
