Indications

  • Treatment of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiency during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

  • Each timed-release capsule contains Ferrous Sulphate BP 150 mg (equivalent to 47 mg Iron), Folic Acid BP 500 mcg, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)

Dosage and administration

  • Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily, Children (aged over 1 year): 1 capsule daily. Capsule may be opened and the pellets to be mixed with soft cool food

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the product
  • Iron overload

Side effects

  • Dark stools during iron therapy
  • Nausea
  • Gastrointestinal irritation such as anorexia, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Rare reports of allergic reactions

Pregnancy and lactation

  • Use of Iron during the first trimester requires definite evidence of Iron deficiency
  • Folic acid is justified during the remainder of the pregnancy

Precautions and warnings

  • Care should be taken in patients who may develop Iron overloads
  • Failure to respond to treatment may indicate other causes of anemia
  • Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure

Overdose effects

  • Iron overdosage is dangerous, particularly in children and requires immediate attention
  • Symptoms of zinc over dosage include gastrointestinal irritation and possible stricture formation
  • Excessive absorption of Iron and Zinc may be delayed by the timed-release capsule presentation
