Indications

Treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiency especially during pregnancy and lactation

Composition

150 mg Ferrous Sulphate (equivalent to 47 mg Iron)
500 mcg Folic Acid
61.80 mg Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)

Dosage & Administration

Adult or Elderly: 1 capsule daily, may require 2 capsules daily in severe cases
Children (over 1 year): 1 capsule daily, may be mixed with soft cool food

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the product components
Iron overload

Side Effects

Dark stools during iron therapy
Nausea, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, diarrhea
Gastrointestinal upset from Zinc
Rare reports of allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid drug use in first trimester of pregnancy if possible
Definite evidence of Iron deficiency required for Iron administration in first trimester
Justified use of Zinc and Folic acid during remainder of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

Care in patients at risk of Iron overloads
Investigate failure to respond to treatment for other causes of anemia
Potential interactions with tetracycline, penicillamine, antacids
Reduced Zinc absorption in presence of Iron
Reduced Iron absorption by penicillamine and antacids
Potential risk of Zinc accumulation in renal failure patients

Overdose Effects

Iron overdosage dangerous, requires immediate attention
Gastric lavage, vomiting induction, oral desferrioxamine for treatment
Chelating agents recommended for Zinc overdosage
Timed-release capsule presentation may delay excessive absorption of Iron and Zinc
