Indications

Composition

  • Folic acid BP 500 microgram
  • Zinc sulphate monohydrate USP 61.80 mg

Pharmacology

  • Combined preparation of Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate
  • Carbonyl Iron with not less than 98% Iron content
  • High bioavailability and low toxicity of Carbonyl Iron

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician

Interaction

  • Carbonyl Iron decreases absorption of certain antibiotics and medications
  • Folic Acid interacts with antiepileptics

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal irritations such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Possibility of dark stool
  • Rare allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Caution in first trimester
  • Justified use during the remainder of pregnancy with inadequate diet

Precautions & Warnings

  • Special care in patients with Iron overload states
  • Failure to respond to treatment requires further investigations
  • Risk of Zinc accumulation in patients with renal failure

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak and rapid pulse, fever, coma, seizures
