Indications

  • Treatment of iron deficiency during pregnancy

Composition

  • Elemental iron 50 mg (as carbonyl iron INN)
  • Folic acid BP 500 microgram
  • Zinc sulphate monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg zinc)

Pharmacology

  • Combined preparation of Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate
  • High bioavailability and low toxicity of Carbonyl Iron

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician

Interaction

  • Decreases absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine
  • Interacts with antiepileptics affecting plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component
  • Iron overload

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal irritations such as nausea, anorexia, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Dark stool
  • Rare allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoid use during first trimester if possible
