Contraindications

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoidance of drug usage in first trimester of pregnancy
  • Requirement of definite evidence for Iron deficiency in first trimester
  • Justified prophylaxis of Iron deficiency during remainder of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients who may develop iron overload
  • Caution in patients with hemochromatosis
  • Caution in patients with hemolytic anemia
  • Impaired absorption of tetracycline due to iron chelation

Overdose Effects

  • Decreased energy
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Tarry stool
  • Weak, rapid pulse
  • Fever
  • Coma
  • Seizures
