Composition
- 50 mg Elemental Iron [as Carbonyl iron] INN
- 61.80 mg Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate BP equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc
- 0.5mg Folic Acid BP
- 10 mg Nicotinamide BP
- 2 mg Riboflavin BP
- 1 mg Pyridoxine Hydrochloride BP
- 50 mg Ascorbic Acid USP
- 2 mg Thiamine Mononitrate BP
Pharmacology
- Carbonyl Iron has higher bioavailability and low toxicity
- Folic acid is vital for cell division and healthy development
- Vitamin B Complex is required for growth and development
- Vitamin C plays a role in the structure of collagen
- Zinc is critical for fetal growth and development
Dosage & Administration
- Adult: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician
- Use in Children & Adolescents: Upon consultation with a doctor
Interaction
- Carbonyl Iron decreases the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics
- Folic Acid interacts with antiepileptics
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Presence of haemolytic anaemia
Side Effects
- Allergic sensitization reported with oral administration of Folic acid
- Oral iron preparation may cause constipation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use of any drug during first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided if possible
- Prophylaxis of Iron deficiency where inadequate diet calls for supplementary Zinc and Folic acid is justified during the remainder of the pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Care should be taken in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms of Carbonyl Iron overdose include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak, rapid pulse, fever, coma, seizures
