Composition
- Each capsule contains 50 mg elemental iron [as Carbonyl iron] INN
- Each capsule contains 61.80 mg Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate BP equivalent to 22.50 mg zinc
- Each capsule contains 0.5mg Folic Acid BP
- Each capsule contains 10 mg Nicotinamide BP
- Each capsule contains 2 mg Riboflavin BP
- Each capsule contains 1 mg Pyridoxine Hydrochloride BP
- Each capsule contains 50 mg Ascorbic Acid USP
- Each capsule contains 2 mg Thiamine Mononitrate BP
Pharmacology
- Carbonyl Iron has higher bioavailability and lower toxicity
- Folic Acid is vital for cell division and neural tube development
- Vitamin B Complex is essential for unborn baby's growth and development
- Vitamin C plays a role in fetal membrane collagen structure
- Zinc is critical for fetal growth, central nervous system development, and maternal & infant health
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician
- Use in Children & Adolescents: Upon consultation with a doctor
Interaction
- Carbonyl Iron decreases absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine
- Folic Acid interacts with antiepileptics, potentially reducing plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Presence of haemolytic anaemia for iron therapy
Side Effects
- Allergic sensitization following oral administration of Folic acid
- Constipation caused by oral iron preparation, particularly in older patients
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoidance of drug use in first trimester of pregnancy if possible
- Administration of Iron during the first trimester requires definite evidence of Iron deficiency
- Prophylaxis of Iron deficiency is justified during the remainder of the pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Care in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline, impairing absorption
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak rapid pulse, fever, coma, seizures
