Composition
- 50 mg Elemental Iron (as Carbonyl iron) INN
- 61.80 mg Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate BP (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc)
- 0.5mg Folic Acid BP
- 10 mg Nicotinamide BP
- 2 mg Riboflavin BP
- 1 mg Pyridoxine Hydrochloride BP
- 50 mg Ascorbic Acid USP
- 2 mg Thiamine Mononitrate BP
Pharmacology
- Carbonyl Iron has higher bioavailability
- Folic acid is vital for cell division and neural tube development
- Vitamin B Complex is important for unborn baby's growth and development
- Vitamin C is involved in fetal membrane collagen structure
- Zinc is critical for fetal growth and central nervous system development
Dosage & Administration
- Adult: One capsule daily before food
- Use in Children & Adolescents: Upon consultation with a doctor
Interaction
- Carbonyl Iron decreases absorption of tetracycline antibiotics
- Folic Acid interacts with antiepileptics
- Interaction with quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa and penicillamine
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Contraindicated in haemolytic anaemia
Side Effects
- Allergic sensitization with oral administration of Folic acid
- Constipation with oral iron preparation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use of any drug during first trimester if possible
- Definite evidence required for Iron deficiency in first trimester
- Justified prophylaxis during remainder of the pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Care in patients who may develop iron overload
- Iron chelates with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak rapid pulse, fever, coma, seizures
