Description

Nerviton Tablet is indicated for peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, alcoholic neuropathy, drug-induced neuropathy, entrapment neuropathy, lumbago, intercostal neuralgia, diabetic retinopathy, multiple sclerosis, vertebral syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Bell's palsy. It is also indicated for the treatment of peripheral neuropathies and megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency. The pharmacology involves Mecobalamin which is a coenzyme form of vitamin B12 essential for myelin integrity, neuronal function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis. The dosage for tablets is 0.5 mg three times daily after a meal, whereas for injection, it is administered IM or IV 3 times a week. Vitamin B12 absorption may be reduced by certain medications. Nerviton is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to Mecobalamin. Side effects may include dermatologic effects, gastrointestinal effects, and neurologic effects, among others. It should not be used aimlessly for more than one month unless effective, and the prolonged use of larger doses is not recommended for those handling mercury or mercury compounds. Nerviton belongs to the therapeutic class of drugs for megaloblastic anemia and should be stored at room temperature, protected from moisture and light.
