Description

• Remylin Tablet is indicated for various conditions including peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, alcoholic neuropathy, drug induced neuropathy, lumbago, intercostal neuralgia, diabetic retinopathy, multiple sclerosis, vertebral syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Bell's palsy, and megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Tablet Dosage

• 0.5 mg tablet
• 3 times daily after meal

Injection Dosage Adult

• 1 ampoule (Mecobalamin 500 mcg) daily, administered IM or IV 3 times a week

Injection Dosage Children

• Not Recommended

Pharmacology

• Mecobalamin is a coenzyme form of vitamin B12, essential for myelin integrity, neuronal function, red blood cell formation, DNA synthesis, neuronal lipid synthesis, axonal nerve regeneration, axonal transport, and neuroprotective activity.

Interaction

• Absorption of vitamin B12 may be reduced by neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2-antagonists, omeprazole, and colchicine. Serum concentrations may be decreased by oral contraceptives.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Mecobalamin or other components of the formulation.

Side Effects

• Rash, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, headache, anaphylactoid reaction, hot sensation, diaphoresis, pain/induration at the site of intramuscular injection.

Pregnancy Lactation

• No data available for mecobalamin use in pregnant women & lactating mothers. Vitamin B12 is usually compatible with breastfeeding.

Precautions Warnings

• Remylin should not be used aimlessly for more than one month unless effective. Prolonged use of larger doses is not recommended for patients handling mercury or mercury compounds.
