Indications

Description
- Recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO)
- Expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells
- Has a 165 amino acid sequence identical to human urinary EPO
- Apparent molecular weight of about 30,400 daltons

Administration
- Preparation and Administration guidelines

Interaction
- Potentiation by the therapeutic administration of a haematinic agent like ferrous sulphate
Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Serious allergic reactions to Erythropoietin alfa
- Patients with Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) following treatment with any erythropoietin
Side Effects
- Adverse reactions in Epoetin treated patients
- Specific adverse reactions for patients with CKD, Zidovudine-treated HIV-infected patients, cancer patients on chemotherapy, surgery patients, and premature infants
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnant chronic renal failure patients
- Not recommended for pregnant or lactating surgical patients in an autologous blood predonation programme
- Caution in nursing women
Overdose Effects
