Indications
- Treatment of anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients on dialysis and not on dialysis
- Treatment of anemia due to Zidovudine in HIV-infected patients
- Treatment of anemia due to the effects of concomitant myelosuppressive chemotherapy

Description
- Recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO)
- Expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells
- Has a 165 amino acid sequence identical to that of human urinary EPO
- Apparent molecular weight of erythropoietin is about 30,400 daltons
Dosage
- Evaluation of iron stores and nutritional factors before and during treatment
- Monitoring hemoglobin levels frequently when initiating or adjusting therapy
- Dose adjustment based on hemoglobin levels and responsiveness to ESA
- Different dosing recommendations for CKD patients on dialysis and not on dialysis, and Zidovudine-treated HIV-infected patients

Interaction

Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Serious allergic reactions to Erythropoietin alfa
- Patients who develop Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) following treatment with any erythropoietin
