Indications
- Treatment of thiamine deficiency

Pharmacology
- Coenzyme for decarboxylation of α-ketoglutaric acid
- Affects peripheral nervous system and gastrointestinal tract
- Necessary for optimal growth of infants and children
- Not stored in the body
- Required for normal health
Dosage & Administration
- Prophylactic dosage: 3 to 10 mg daily
- Mild chronic deficiency dosage: 10 to 25 mg daily
- Severe deficiency dosage: 200 to 300 mg daily
Interaction
- Acts synergistically with other B-complex vitamins
- Reduces potential for adverse effects
Contraindications
- Risk of anaphylaxis with repeated parenteral administration
- Avoid intravenous administration except in comatose patients
- No need for parenteral administration after correction of deficiency

- Transient mild soreness at intramuscular site
