Indications
- Antispasmodic medication for smooth muscle in the abdominal cavity
- Treatment of gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract spasms
- Recommended for spastic dysmenorrhea
- Use for intense gastrointestinal or biliary pain
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 20mg 4 times daily
- Pediatric dosage (6-12 years old): 10mg 3 times daily or as directed by a healthcare professional
- Injection for muscle or urinary tract application: General dose is 20mg with a possible repeat in 30 minutes if necessary
- Higher frequency of injection for endoscopic procedures
Contraindications
- Prostatic hypertrophy patients should avoid usage
- Use caution in elderly patients
- Not recommended for individuals with paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis
- Patients with glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, heart failure, or myocardial damage should not use this medication
Side Effects
- Potential side effects include dry mouth, pupil dilation, increased intraocular pressure, flushing, dry skin, bradycardia, subsequent tachycardia, and arrhythmia
- Occasional drowsiness, vomiting, dizziness, and unsteadiness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Usage during the first trimester requires cautiousness similar to other medications
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause drowsiness and mental impairment
- Lack of alertness may lead to accidents while driving or operating machinery
- Patients should abstain from alcohol consumption
- Caution in thyrotoxicosis, cardiac insufficiency or failure, abnormalities of cardiac rhythm, and use of other anticholinergic medications
- Administration may require dosage reduction in combination with certain medications
