Indications
- Antispasmodic activity in various parts of the abdominal cavity's smooth muscles
- Treatment of gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts visceral spasm symptoms
- Indicated for spastic dysmenorrhea
- Recommended for intense gastrointestinal and biliary pain
- Used to alleviate discomfort in radiological examinations and endorsed to reduce spasm-related symptoms in gastro- duodenal endoscopy
Dosage & Administration
- Adult: 20mg four times a day; in case of spastic dysmenorrhea, treatment should begin at least two days before the expected onset of menstruation and continue for three days after the onset without interruption
- Children (6-12 years): 10mg thrice daily or as directed by a physician
- Injection for adults: Normal dosage is 20mg (1 ampoule) for muscle or nerve usage, with the possibility of re-administering after 30 minutes as needed; denser application is necessary for endoscopy
Contraindications
- Prohibited for patients suffering from prostatic enlargement and caution advised for the elderly
- Not recommended for individuals with paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis
- Use of the medicine is restricted for patients with glaucoma due to potential mydriatic damage
Side Effects
- Potential adverse reactions include dryness of the mouth, pupillary dilation, intraocular pressure elevation, flushing, dry skin, bradycardia, and subsequently tachycardia and arrhythmia
- May occasionally cause fatigue, vomiting, dizziness, and ataxia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- During the first trimester of pregnancy, it should be used with caution similar to other medications
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised as it can induce drowsiness and mental alertness subduing, posing risks when driving or operating machinery
- Patients should avoid alcohol consumption and calcineurin inhibitors; careful monitoring necessary in hyperthyroidism, cardiac insufficiency, or fibrillar heart disorders
- Caution is necessary when co-administering with other anticholinergic drugs and tricyclic antidepressants, potentially requiring a reduced dosage in conjunction
