Indications

• Gastric, Intestinal or pyloric spasm
• Cholelithiasis
• Spastic constipation
• Relief of tenesmus in dysentery
• Dysmenorrhoea
• Peripheral vascular disorders
• Coronary insufficiency
• Angina pectoris

Pharmacology

• Readily absorbed from the intestine
• Acts directly on smooth muscle fibers
• Rapid onset of action
• Spasmolytic and vasodilatory actions
• Selective blockage of cardiac beta-receptors

Dosage & Administration

• Usual dose for adults: 1 to 2 tablets three times daily
• Usual dose for children: smaller doses according to age and body weight
• Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection
• Slow intravenous injection for stone colic
• Intra-arterial injection for peripheral arterial spasm or obstruction
• Combination with atropine for peptic ulcer

Interaction

• May attenuate the action of levodopa
• Concurrent use of analgesics, antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines
• Additive beneficial effect with concurrent use of analgesics, antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Drotaverine HCl

Side Effects

• Rare cases of nausea and vertigo

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No known case of teratogenicity in animal studies
• Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution for patients suffering from liver and kidney disease
