Pharmacology
- Drotaverine HCl as a potent synthetic antispasmodic drug
- Readily absorbed from the intestine
- Acts directly on smooth muscle fibers
- Rapid onset of action
- Spasmolytic and vasodilatory actions
- Selective blockage of cardiac beta-receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose 1-2 tablets three times daily
- Usual adult dose 2-4 ml injection subcutaneously or intramuscularly
- Usual adult dose 2-4 ml slow intravenous injection in acute stone colic
- Usual pediatric doses according to age and body weight
- Expedient combination with atropine in peptic ulcer
Interaction
- May attenuate the action of levodopa
- Concurrent use of analgesics, antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines
- Additive beneficial effect with concurrent use of analgesics, antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines
Contraindications
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Drotaverine HCl
Side Effects
- Rare cases of nausea
- Rare cases of vertigo
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No known case of teratogenicity in animal studies
- Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation

- Caution for patients with liver and kidney disease
