- Utilization of the vitamin reportedly is best after IM administration
- Utilization of the vitamin is the preferred parenteral route
- Dilution into a large volume parenteral such as Normal Saline, Water for Injection, or Glucose is recommended for intravenous injection
- Parenteral drug products should be inspected visually for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration
Interaction
- Incompatible in solution with various medications
- Increases the apparent half-life of paracetamol
- Enhances iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
Side Effects
- Mega-doses may cause diarrhea
- Mega-doses may cause abdominal bloating
- Mega-doses may cause harmful iron over-absorption
- May cause hyperoxaluria
- May cause hyperuricosuria
- May cause hemolysis in patients with glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- May cause fetal abortion if taken in high doses during pregnancy

- Safe in normal doses during pregnancy
- High daily intake may cause abortion during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings
- Ingestion of megadose during pregnancy has resulted in scurvy in neonates
- Megadoses contraindicated for patients with hyperoxaluria
- Reactive substance in the redox system
- Can give false positive reactions in certain analytical tests
