Indications
- Treatment of acid reflux symptoms

Pharmacology
- Combination of Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate
- Formation of gel in the stomach
- Reaction with stomach acid to form bubbles of carbon dioxide
- Gel raft prevents acid reflux into the esophagus
- Physical mode of action without systemic absorption
- Lasts up to 4 hours in the stomach
- Excreted in the feces after breakdown in the digestive system
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets 3-4 times daily after meals and at bedtime
- Children 6-12 years: ½-1 tablet 3-4 times daily after meals and at bedtime
- Suspension: Adults and children 12 years and above: 5-10 ml 3-4 times daily after meals and at bedtime
- Children 2-12 years: 2.5-5 ml 3-4 times daily after meals and at bedtime
- Not recommended for children under 2 years
- No dose modifications for elderly or hepatic impairment
- Caution for renal insufficiency with highly restricted salt diet
Interaction
- Consider 2-hour interval with other medications such as tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, thyroid hormones, chloroquine, bisphosphonates, and estramustine
Contraindications

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use during pregnancy if clinically needed
- No known effect on breast-fed infants
- Can be used during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with renal impairment and congestive cardiac failure
- Care needed in treating patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi
- Possibility of reduced efficacy in patients with very low gastric acid levels
- Review clinical situation if no improvement after seven days
