Pharmacology
- Vitamin C: Necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair
- Vitamin C: Plays a role in oxidation/reduction reactions
- Vitamin C: Plays a role in synthesis of catecholamines and steroids
- Vitamin E: Protects red blood cells against hemolysis
- Vitamin E: Has protective effects against free radicals on polyunsaturated fatty acids
- Vitamin E: Prevents oxidation of vitamin A and C
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet or capsule daily

Interaction
- Vitamin C: Deferroxamine, hormonal contraceptives, flufenazine, warfarin, elemental iron, salicylates
- Vitamin C: Fluphenazine, disulfiram, mexiletine, vitamin B12
- Vitamin E: Colestyramine, colestipol, and orlistat may interfere with vitamin E absorption
- Vitamin E: High doses may potentiate the anticoagulant action of warfarin
- Vitamin E: Large doses may impair response to iron supplementation.
Contraindications
- Patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
Side Effects
- Diarrhea may occasionally occur during treatment with beta carotene
- Skin may assume a slightly yellow discoloration
- The side-effects of vitamin A are reversible
- Vitamin C and vitamin E may cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category A
- Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypervitaminosis
- Avoid use in early pregnancy
- Patients on anticoagulant therapy should not use ascorbic acid for a prolonged period of time
