Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Adult dose is 1 tablet daily
Interaction
- Cholestyramine causing decreased absorption of beta carotene
- Colestipol causing decreased absorption of beta carotene
- Neomycin causing decreased absorption of beta carotene
- Oral contraceptives containing estrogen reducing circulating vitamin C levels
- Tetracycline reducing circulating vitamin C levels
- Aspirin reducing circulating vitamin C levels
- Vitamin E enhancing anticoagulant activity of anticoagulant drugs
- High doses of vitamin E impairing intestinal absorption of vitamins A and K
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Hypercarotenosis from large ingestion of carotenoids
- Gastrointestinal tract upset from larger doses of vitamin C
- Renal stone formation from larger doses of vitamin C
- Diarrhea from doses over 800 mg of vitamin E
- Abdominal pain or cramps from doses over 800 mg of vitamin E
- Fatigue from doses over 800 mg of vitamin E
- Reduced resistance to bacterial infection from doses over 800 mg of vitamin E
- Transiently raised blood pressure from doses over 800 mg of vitamin E
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No teratogenic effects of beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E in humans
- Caution in prescribing to pregnant women
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution for heavy smokers and alcoholics using beta carotene
- Caution for hyperoxaluria patients using vitamin C
- Caution for patients taking anticoagulant drugs using vitamin E
