Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Recommended adult dose of 1 tablet daily
Interaction
- Decreased absorption of beta carotene with cholestyramine, colestipol, neomycin
- Reduced levels of vitamin C with prolonged administration of certain oral contraceptives and drugs like tetracycline and aspirin
- Enhanced anticoagulant activity of vitamin E with anticoagulant drugs
- Impaired intestinal absorption of vitamins A and K with high doses of vitamin E
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Hypercarotenosis with large ingestion of carotenoids
- Gastrointestinal upset and renal stone formation with large doses of vitamin C
- Diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fatigue, reduced resistance to bacterial infection and raised blood pressure with doses over 800mg of vitamin E
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No teratogenic effects of beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E in humans
- Caution in prescribing to pregnant women
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in heavy smokers and alcoholics with beta carotene
- Caution in patients with hyperoxaluria with vitamin C
- Caution in patients taking anticoagulant drugs with vitamin E
