Description

Dosage and administration
- Administered orally
- Adult dose: 1 tablet daily or as prescribed by physician
Pharmacology
- Beta carotene is converted to vitamin A when required
- Vitamin C is a powerful reducing agent and essential for numerous biological processes
- Vitamin E acts as a defense against oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation
Interaction
- Cholestyramine, Colestipol, Neomycin may decrease absorption of beta carotene
- Oral contraceptives containing Estrogen, Tetracycline, and Aspirin may reduce circulating vitamin C levels
- Vitamin E may enhance the anticoagulant activity of anticoagulant drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side effects
- High and prolonged exposure to beta carotene may cause hypercarotenosis
- Large doses of vitamin C may lead to gastrointestinal upset and renal stone formation
- Large doses of vitamin E may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and reduced resistance to bacterial infection
Pregnancy and lactation
- No teratogenic effects in humans, caution in prescribing to pregnant women
Precautions and warnings
- Beta carotene may cause harm to heavy smokers and alcoholics
- Caution with vitamin C in patients with hyperoxaluria
- Vitamin E use caution in patients taking anticoagulant drugs
