Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration
  • Adult dose of 1 tablet daily

Interaction

  • Decreased absorption of beta carotene with cholestyramine, colestipol, neomycin
  • Reduced circulating vitamin C levels during prolonged administration of oral contraceptives containing estrogen, tetracycline, and aspirin
  • Enhanced anticoagulant activity of anticoagulant drugs with vitamin E
  • Impaired intestinal absorption of vitamins A and K with high doses of vitamin E

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any of its components

Side Effects

  • Hypercarotenosis with large and prolonged ingestion of beta carotene
  • Gastrointestinal tract upset and renal stone formation with large doses of vitamin C
  • Diarrhea, abdominal pain or cramps, fatigue, reduced resistance to bacterial infection, and transiently raised blood pressure with doses over 800 mg of vitamin E

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No teratogenic effects observed in humans
  • Caution in prescribing to pregnant women

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in heavy smokers and alcoholics with beta carotene
  • Caution in patients with hyperoxaluria with vitamin C
  • Caution in patients taking anticoagulant drugs with vitamin E
