Dosage and Administration
- Administered orally
- Adult dose is 1 tablet daily or as prescribed by physician
Interactions
- Cholestyramine, Colestipol, Neomycin may decrease β carotene absorption
- Oral contraceptives, Tetracycline, Aspirin may reduce circulating vitamin C levels
- Vitamin E may enhance anticoagulant activity of certain drugs
- High doses of vitamin E may impair intestinal absorption of vitamins A and K
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Possible hypercarotenosis with excess β carotene intake
- Large doses of vitamin C may lead to gastrointestinal upset and renal stone formation
- Large doses of vitamin E may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, reduced resistance to bacterial infection, and transiently raised blood pressure
Pregnancy and Lactation
- No teratogenic effects observed, caution advised for pregnant women
Precautions and Warnings
- Caution advised for heavy smokers and alcoholics when using β carotene
- Caution advised for hyperoxaluria patients when using vitamin C
- Caution advised for patients taking anticoagulant drugs when using vitamin E
