Description

Meverine is a musculotropic antispasmodic agent used to relieve cramps or spasms of the stomach and intestine (gut). It is particularly useful in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and similar conditions. It works by relaxing the muscles and helping restore the normal movement of the gut.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Chronic irritable colon
Spastic constipation
Mucous colitis
Colicky abdominal pain
Persistent non-specific diarrhea

Dosage & Administration

Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135 mg tablet: 1 tablet 03 times daily for adults, elderly and children over 10 years
Mebeverine Hydrochloride 200 mg capsule: 1 capsule 02 times daily for adults, elderly and children over 10 years
Most effective when taken 20 minutes before meals
Dosage may be gradually reduced after several weeks when the desired effect has been obtained
Missed dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible; do not double dose

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug or any other ingredients

Side Effects

Well tolerated; may include skin rash, urticaria, and angioedema

Pregnancy & Lactation

No teratogenicity shown in animal experiments
Usual precautions for drug administration during pregnancy should be exercised
Does not excrete in breast milk after therapeutic dose

Precautions & Warnings

Exercise caution in porphyria or allergic reactions to this or any related medicine

Overdose Effects

CNS excitability may occur in case of overdosage
No specific antidote known; gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment recommended
