Indications

Description

Musculotropic antispasmodic agent for cramps/spasms of stomach and intestine; used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Dosage & Administration

  • Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135 mg tablet: 1 tablet 3 times daily for adults, elderly, and children over 10 years
  • Mebeverine Hydrochloride 200 mg capsule: 1 capsule 2 times daily for adults, elderly, and children over 10 years
  • Most effective when taken 20 minutes before meals
  • Gradual dosage reduction after desired effect obtained
  • Missed dose: take as soon as possible, but do not double dose
  • Not recommended for children under 10 years

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug or any other ingredients

Side Effects

Generally well tolerated, may cause skin rash, urticaria, and angioedema

Pregnancy & Lactation

No teratogenicity shown in animal experiments; caution during pregnancy; does not excrete in breast milk after therapeutic dose

Precautions & Warnings

Caution in porphyria or allergic reaction to this or any other medicine of this group

Overdose Effects

CNS excitability in case of overdosage; no specific antidote known; gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment recommended
