Indications
- Treatment of calcium deficiency in growing children
- Treatment of calcium deficiency in lactating and pregnant mothers
- Symptom relief for hypocalcemia
- Relief of symptoms such as paresthesia, muscle cramps, tetany, convulsion, etc.
Pharmacology
- Supplements dietary calcium
- Neutralizes gastric acid in peptic ulcer disease
- Sequesters phosphorus in the intestine
- Reduces total body phosphate accumulation in chronic renal failure
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1-2 tablets (300 mg-600 mg) daily
- Children over 3 years: 1 tablet (300 mg) daily
- Pregnant women dosage: 3-4 tablets (900-1200 mg) daily
- Duration: During third trimester and lactation
Interaction
- May reduce efficacy of calcium-channel blockers
- Concurrent administration with IV calcium salt and cardiac glycosides may lead to serious adverse events
- Increased risk of hypercalcemia when used with thiazide diuretics
- May reduce absorption of tetracycline, alendronate, atenolol, etc.
Contraindications
- Patients with hypercalcemia associated with sarcoidosis
- Patients with bone metastasis of neoplastic process

- Gastrointestinal irritation
- Constipation (rare)

- Cautious use in patients with impaired renal function
- Cautious use in patients with cardiac disease
