Indications

Pharmacology
- Supplements dietary calcium
- Neutralizes gastric acid in peptic ulcer disease
- Sequesters phosphorus in the intestine

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage of 1-2 tablets daily
- Child dosage of 1 tablet daily
- Pregnant women dosage of 3-4 tablets daily during third trimester and lactation
- Dosage based on age and pregnancy stage
Interaction
- May reduce efficacy of calcium-channel blockers
- Potential adverse events with IV calcium salt and cardiac glycosides
- Increased risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics
- May reduce absorption of various medications
Contraindications
- Not suitable for hypercalcemia associated with sarcoidosis
- Not recommended for bone metastasis of neoplastic process
