Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1-2 tablets (300 mg-600 mg) daily
- Children over 3 years: 1 tablet (300 mg) daily
- Pregnant women dosage: 3-4 tablets (900-1200 mg) daily
- Duration for pregnant women: During third trimester and lactation
Interaction
- May reduce efficacy of calcium-channel blockers
- Risk of adverse events with IV calcium salt and cardiac glycosides
- Increased risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics
- Reduces absorption of tetracycline, alendronate, atenolol, iron, quinolone antibiotics, sodium fluoride, zinc
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia associated with sarcoidosis
- Bone metastasis of neoplastic process
