Indications
- Treatment or prevention of calcium depletion
- Conditions associated with calcium deficiency

Pharmacology
- Reacts with gastric acid to produce a salt and water
- Increase in gastric pH diminishes the activity of pepsin
- Up to 30% of the oral calcium load may be absorbed

- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis

- Rarely produced hypercalcaemia when large doses given to patients with chronic renal failure
