Pharmacology
- Contains Calcium Orotate
- Functional amino acid chelating ligand- orotic acid
- Assists in transport of calcium through cellular membrane structures
- Facilitates intracellular uptake of calcium, particularly in bone
- Involved in the maintenance of healthy cartilage
- Involved in DNA and RNA synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Calcium Orotate 400 mg: 2-3 tablets with meal or as directed by a physician
- Calcium Orotate 740 mg: 1-2 tablets with meal or as directed by a physician
Interactions
- Decreases absorption of biphosphonates, quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, phenytoin, and tiludronate disodium
- Can interact with thiazide-type diuretics
- Increases the risks of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria
- Increases urinary calcium excretion when taken with aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids
- Decreases calcium absorption when taken with mineral oil and stimulant laxatives
- Can cause calcium depletion and osteoporosis when taken with glucocorticoids
- Reduces calcium when taken with oral contraceptives and estrogen compounds
- Depletes calcium when taken with anti-inflammatories and corticosteroids
Contraindications
- Incomplete or infrequent bowel movements
- Kidney stone
- Kidney disease
- High activity of the parathyroid gland
- High amount of Calcium in urine
- High amount of Calcium in the blood
- Extreme loss of body water
