Indications

Pharmacology
- Calcium is used to remedy deficiency
- Vitamin-C is an essential component of the diet and plays a part in the response of the body to stress
- Adequate calcium in the blood is vital to various bodily functions
Dosage & Administration
- Children 3 to 7 years: ½ effervescent tablet daily
- Adults & children above 7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily
- Tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water before consumption
Interaction
- Potentially hazardous interactions with digoxin, tetracycline, furosemide, pentagastrin, aminophylline, bleomycin, etc.
- Potentially useful interactions with Vitamin-D, oxytocin, prostaglandins, and enhanced iron absorption by Vitamin-C
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia
- Severe hypercalciuria
- Severe renal failure
- Hyperoxalauria
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- Iron overload
- Larger doses may lead to gastrointestinal tract upset
Side Effects
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances in rare cases, such as bloating and diarrhea
- Prolonged treatment with high doses may promote formation of calculi in the urinary tract
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Epidemiological studies show no increase in teratogenic hazard to the fetus
- Supplemental calcium excreted in breast milk unlikely to produce adverse effects on the neonate
- Vitamin C safe during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring of calcium excretion in the urine for patients with mild hypercalciuria, impaired renal function, or history of urinary concrements
- Avoid high doses of vitamin-D and derivatives during treatment
- Use with caution in patients with severely impaired renal function, especially those receiving aluminium-containing preparations
- Consider sugar content for diabetic patients
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage not reported
- Expected to cause gastrointestinal disturbances but not hypercalcemia, except in patients treated with a very high dosage of vitamin-D and derivatives
