Composition
- Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium
- Vitamin D3 BP (as Cholecalciferol) 200 IU
- Magnesium Oxide BP equivalent to 40 mg Magnesium
- Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate BP equivalent to 1.8 mg Manganese
- Cupric Oxide equivalent to 1 mg Copper
- Boron Citrate equivalent to 250 mcg Boron
- Zinc Oxide BP equivalent to 7.5 mg Zinc
Pharmacology
Nutrition is important to prevent osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases. Calcium, Magnesium & Vitamin D3 are essential macronutrients for bone health. Micronutrients like Copper, Manganese, Zinc & Boron also play a role in bone health.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: 1 film-coated tablet twice daily, preferably with meals and water. Children 3-7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily. 7 years and older: 1 to 2 effervescent tablets daily.
Interaction
Potential interactions with thiazide diuretics, digitalis, phenytoin, barbiturates, glucocorticoids, thyroid medications, antibiotics, and iron supplements.
Contraindications
Absolute contraindications include hypercalcaemia, sarcoidosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin-D3 overdosage, severe renal failure. Relative contraindications include prolonged immobilization, renal stones, and severe hypercalciuria.
Side Effects
Mild gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rash, hypercalciuria, and rare cases of hypercalcaemia with long-term high-dose treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Increased requirements for calcium and Vitamin-D3 during pregnancy and lactation. Caution required in administering calcium and iron supplements simultaneously. Overdoses of vitamin D3 can have teratogenic effects.
Precautions & Warnings
Supervision required for patients with mild to moderate renal failure or hypercalciuria. Monitoring of plasma and urinary calcium levels recommended.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, cramps, diarrhea, and constipation.
