Pharmacology
- Importance of Calcium, Magnesium, and Vitamin D3 for bone health

Dosage & Administration
- Adult: 1 film-coated tablet twice daily
- Best taken with or just after main meals with a full glass of water
- Children 3-7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily
- Children 7 years and older: 1-2 effervescent tablets daily
Interaction
- Interaction with thiazide diuretics
- Interaction with foods containing oxalic acid, phosphate, or phytinic acid
- Concomitant treatment with phenytoin or barbiturates
- Concomitant use of glucocorticoids
- Interaction with digitalis and other cardiac glycosides
- Reduction of absorption of thyroxin, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride, quinolone, or tetracycline antibiotics
- Reduction of absorption of iron
- Minimum period before taking calcium after certain medications
Contraindications
- Absolute contraindications: hypercalcaemia, sarcoidosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin-D 3 overdosage, severe renal failure, hypersensitivity to tablet ingredients
- Relative contraindications: osteoporosis due to prolonged immobilization, renal stones, severe hypercalciuria
Side Effects
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances
- Skin rash
- Hypercalciuria
- Hypercalcaemia with long term treatment at high doses
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Increased requirements for calcium and vitamin-D 3 during pregnancy and lactation
- Necessity for careful treatment under physician's direction
- Teratogenic effects of vitamin-D 3 overdoses
Precautions & Warnings
- Supervision for patients with mild to moderate renal failure or mild hypercalciuria
- Periodic checks of plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion
- Monitoring in patients with a history of renal stones
- Monitoring serum and urinary calcium levels and kidney function with long term treatment
- Allowances for calcium and vitamin D3 supplements from other sources
