Composition

  • Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium
  • Vitamin D3 BP (as Cholecalciferol) 200 IU
  • Magnesium Oxide BP equivalent to 40 mg Magnesium
  • Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate BP equivalent to 1.8 mg Manganese
  • Cupric Oxide equivalent to 1 mg Copper
  • Boron Citrate equivalent to 250 mcg Boron
  • Zinc Oxide BP equivalent to 7.5 mg Zinc

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: 1 film-coated tablet twice daily with water and meals
  • Children 3-7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily
  • Children 7 years and older: 1 to 2 effervescent tablets daily

Interaction

  • Potential interactions with thiazide diuretics, Phenytion, barbiturates, glucocorticoids, digitalis, cardiac glycosides, thyroxin, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride, quinolone, tetracycline antibiotics, and iron
  • Advisable period before taking calcium when on other medications

Contraindications

  • Absolute contraindications associated with hypercalcaemia, sarcoidosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, severe renal failure, and Vitamin-D3 overdosage
  • Relative contraindications associated with prolonged immobilization, renal stones, severe hypercalciuria

Side Effects

  • Rarely mild gastro-intestinal disturbances
  • Occasional skin rash with Vitamin-D3 supplements
  • Potential for hypercalciuria and hypercalcaemia with long-term high-dose treatment

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Increased requirements for calcium and vitamin-D3 during pregnancy and lactation
  • Potential teratogenic effects of vitamin-D3 overdoses
  • Passage of vitamin-D3 and its metabolites into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Supervision for patients with mild to moderate renal failure or mild hypercalciuria
  • Periodic checks of plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion
  • Monitoring of serum and urinary calcium levels and kidney function with long-term treatment

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms of overdosage include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and constipation
